We will not support the reactionary elements who may cry crocodile tears now but who have never been consistent in their condemnation of all terrorism including the violence of Boko Haram, Isis, Israel and US imperialism. This terrorist extremism of ISIS is one side of the terrorist coin, USA imperialism and its proxies like Israel is the other. As we stand with the oppressed peoples of Swaziland, Western Sahara and Palestine, we now also stand with the peoples o

Lavrov, Kerry Make Joint Statement Denouncing Paris Terror Attacks Sputnik, Moscow, 14 November 2015 Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry made a joint statement for the press in Vienna regarding the violent terrorist attack which was carried out in Paris  on Friday  night. "We're witnessing the kind of medieval and modern fascism at the same time, which has no regard for life, that seeks to destroy, create chaos, disorder and fear," Kerry said, denouncing the attack as an act of terror and stating that such acts only serve to "stiffen our resolve to fight back, to hold people accountable and to stand up to the rule of law." "I fully subscribe to what John just said," said Lavrov, adding that Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed solidarity with the French people and Russia’s outrage about what happened in Paris.  According to Lavrov, there could be no justification for terrorist acts,

Anti-Imperialism..Martin Luther King, 1929 – 1968

Image
Anti-Imperialism Martin Luther King, 1929 – 1968 Exactly how the anti-Imperialist struggle will resolve itself in South Africa, Southern Africa, and Africa in general, is something unpredictable at the tactical level. The question of the armed defence of revolutionary change cannot be ruled out, and we have examined this question. This part of the present series, referenced to the “Beyond Vietnam” speech (attached, and linked below) of the late Rev Martin Luther King Junior, is designed to point to the subjective political factor in the anti-Imperialist struggle. Nowadays it has become commonplace to refer to “international solidarity” as not only a specific, but more so a universal idea. But this concept that we have largely stripped of its particularity, generalising it as a formula, does actually have a tremendous history whose meaning is not fully conveyed by a stock phrase called “international solidarity”. The anti-Imperialist struggle and the democratic str

Scientists find key to malaria growth

Image
The key to malaria's rampant growth has been explained by scientists. They say it is down to protein molecules called cyclins which cause cells to divide rapidly in the malaria parasite. The study, led by a team from the University of Nottingham, could lead to new treatments for malaria, the researchers said. Malaria is responsible for nearly half a million deaths a year. A cyclin is one of the most important protein molecules needed for cell division. They have been well studied in humans, yeasts and plants - but until now, little has been known about cyclins in the malaria parasite and how they affect cell development. This research, published in the journal PLoS Pathogens, has been able to classify the number and type of cyclins present in malaria parasites. The Rodin Museum reopens in Paris

Image
Go figure: The Rodin Museum reopens in Paris 9 November 2015 After closing its doors for three years of major renovation work, on Thursday the  Rodin Museum  in Paris welcomes the public back into its galleries for the first time. WILLIAM COOK visits the much-loved chateau, where Rodin himself worked until his death, to discover how the building has become a timeline of the sculptor's life and greatest works. The Rodin Museum was a royal palace, Russian embassy and church building before the sculptor moved in and made it his workshop. The Rodin Museum in Paris is renowned as one of Europe’s great galleries, but after nearly a century of public use it was beginning to show signs of wear and tear. Parisians adore this atmospheric museum, but even its most ardent admirers admitted it had become rather shabby. This €16 million refit restores it to its former glory, without losing any of its charm and character. Rodin moved into the chateau in
